The most common question at our counter is whether to repair a cracked screen before selling. The honest answer is usually no.
The maths
A third party display for a mid range Android costs Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 4,000. The same crack reduces our quote by roughly the same amount, sometimes less. After the repair the device now has a non original panel, which reduces the resale value again.
When repair does pay
Flagship iPhones and Samsung foldables are the exception. An authorised service repair on these can lift the value by more than the repair cost, because buyers pay a premium for an untouched device.
The rule we give customers
If the repair is not from the official service centre, sell as is and take the deduction. You will end up ahead.
